Hi everyone,
The Month of May starts with the celebration of Mother's Day (May 11th)... when we serve Moms breakfast in bed, & lunch out after Church. By dinnertime, Mom is usually back to her routine of womping up dinner for everyone. The Month of May ends more somberly, with a visit to the cemetery on Memorial Day (May 26th). In between Mother's Day and Memorial Day we usually enjoy the year's most glorious weather... sunny skies, not too hot, beautiful flowers, lush grass, and ripening wheat - the greenest stuff you ever saw. And we celebrate college graduations, outdoor weddings, the year's 1st cookouts, and the opening of the community swimming pool.
All this goes to say that May is the year's most popular month in addition to being the most beautiful. If ever there was a time to be joyful, May is it. But joy has little to do with the month of May and its good weather and favorable circumstances. Joy is more rugged... more enduring. Joy is not the sunshine & flowers of May. It is the assurance that no matter what the circumstances... good or bad, happy or sad... God can and will accomplish His divine purposes "no matter what."
Nowhere in the Bible does God assure us that by following Him, we will enjoy unending spring. No. God permits us to be slammed with all manner of storms, freezing winds, trials and tribulations. This is the way character is formed and how true grit is burnished into our soul. If life were an unending day in May, we would grow up soft & pathetic. But as it is, the harsh winds of March toughen us up so that we can eventually give way to the glory & beauty of May. Let's enjoy it while we have it!!!
